TEACHING

Inspiring future generations of visual thinkers and social science students by employing innovative teaching methods and fostering a commitment to critical inquiry.

As a dedicated higher education educator and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) , I am committed to excellence in teaching, academic mentorship, and fostering transformative learning experiences. In my role as a Student Success Advisor  at the University of Sydney, I support students in navigating their academic journeys, helping them achieve their goals with confidence and clarity.
My expertise extends to mentoring educators   and advancing pedagogical practices as an Accredited Assessor & Mentor for AFHEA and FHEA through the 2024 Sydney Educational Fellowship Program. I have guided numerous educators in their professional growth, promoting innovative and impactful teaching.
These contributions have been recognized through institutional awards, including the Dean’s Citation for Excellence in Tutorials with Distinction  (University of Sydney, 2022) and the Faculty of Science Learning and Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching  (University of Sydney, 2022), highlighting my ongoing commitment to enhancing education and fostering student success.
I have taught at various institutions, but my primary focus has been at the University of Sydney, where I teach courses under the broad umbrella of the sociology of culture. My teaching spans across the disciplines of Sociology and Media and Communications, with a range of courses designed to cater to both small classes and large cohorts. I run workshops that help students develop their portfolios, create short films, and write  persuasive critical essays.
As an interdisciplinary researcher, I work at the intersection of sociology, media, and film. I bring the creativity and insights from these research fields into my teaching, employing innovative methods that engage students and encourage critical thinking. Additionally, my work with various teams across different disciplines has enhanced my collaboration skills, leadership abilities, and understanding of complex issues. These experiences not only improve my relationships with colleagues but also positively impact my interactions with students.
I recognize that my students come with diverse learning styles, interests, and goals. This requires me to adapt my teaching approach to meet their individual needs. I place a strong emphasis on supporting first-year students, particularly in helping them navigate challenges such as time management, academic pressure, migration, and personal commitments. For my final-year students, I focus on enhancing their teamwork and problem-solving skills, while fostering creativity in applying their learning to real-world situations and preparing for future career opportunities.
In addition to working with undergraduate students, I also teach and mentor master’s students. With this group, I focus on advanced critical thinking, research methodologies, and the practical application of theoretical concepts. I support them in refining their analytical skills and guiding them through the complexities of independent research projects.
